Montmorency FC scores goals in managing alcohol

Good Sports is a nationwide program that supports sporting clubs to become safer, healthier and more family friendly through the responsible management of alcohol. In Victoria there are close to 1,700 clubs in the program, with over 650 having achieved Level 3 Accreditation.

Montmorency FC has been recognised this week for its longstanding commitment to reducing alcohol problems, as part of the Australian Drug Foundation’s Good Sports program. While stories about sports stars struggling with alcohol problems, or behaving badly after a big night out are rife in the media these days, clubs such as Montmorency FC are managing alcohol responsibly through the assistance of the Good Sports program and community partners. CARELLI SIGNS 2011

The Montmorency Senior Football Club have confirmed that 2010 Senior Coach, Fabian Carelli, has signed again for season 2011. Carelli came to Montmorency in 2009 as a Playing Assistant Coach. And with his family, wife Christina, children Josh & Marcus, I think the young lads have enjoyed kitting up in the black and white.
Carelli replaced 2005-2009 coach Brian “Jack” Cole as the man to lead from the front in 2010, assisted by close ally Chas Sauro, who too has been a revelation in 2010. Fab and Chas’ re-creation of the current list, and introduction of new recruits and Junior members into the Senior team over this time leaves the Club in a strong sustainable position.

Carelli is a well grounded person attracting good people to the Club – a quality in people that the Club and Fab’s predecessor has always held highly. It has been an extremely strong working relationship between the Football Department, administrators of the Senior Club and the Junior Club. Carelli has brought to Montmorency an enormous wealth of experience and exposure working under great mentors over his time. Montmorency is full of excitement with the knowledge that success has followed this man everywhere his footy has taken him, and looks forward to what lay ahead.

2010 A New Decade Begins

Welcome to the official website for the Montmorency Football Club. Over the coming weeks the website will be updated and revamped. Keep coming back to find out the news and happenings around your club.

Message from President Gary Green

The 2010 season will be upon us before we know it and I think the MFC can look forward with some optimism. A number of new recruits have joined the club along with the appointment of Fabian Carelli as the senior coach who will be assisted by Chas Sauro, Grant Turnbull and Alan Hoffman; we have some excellent coaches and good reason to believe that 2010 should be a bright one for Mont.
Football is always on the move and we must be aware of the trends/changes in football, be open to the change and advance for the good of the club. Our aim in the coming season is to facilitate and actively encourage involvement in Australian Rules football and provide a high level of social enjoyment to all of our members and associates. As the Dali Lama once said, you follow the three”R’s” in life
1/ Respect for yourself
2/ Respect for others
3/ Responsibility for all your actions
If you follow these simple principles, life’s journey will be much more enjoyable.

This year we will have a football department with a clear set of guidelines that will be made transparent to all players and member’s, the intention is to deliver a document that sets out the criteria we expect from the playing group which could have an impact on selection. We are looking at setting up a Buddy system of senior players to look after the new players to the club. This will help the younger guy’s settle into the new environment at the senior club.
We are also developing and program for contracted senior players to conduct training for a junior team which will further strengthen our ties with the junior body.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of local clubs and without a number of people covering the many tasks that need to be done on a weekly basis, it places a huge burden on the committee to make sure the club runs efficiently. Like all clubs you cannot have too much assistance and I ask all members to give serious thought in offering your services to assist in anyway possible to help the football club this season.
The general committee has been working tirelessly behind the scenes putting together many plans and initiatives to deliver the best possible product we can and with your support and encouragement we hope 2010 is an enjoyable one for all involved at the nest.

Daniel Keenan wins second consecutive League Medal

Daniel Keenan made Montmorency FC history to easily win the Northern Football League Best and Fairest Award for the second successive year. Polling 23 votes Daniel was 6 votes clear of second placed Michael Gay (Heidelberg). Backing up from his joint win in 2008 Daniel was the stand alone winner in 2009 to become the first Montmorency player to win the Leagues' Best and Fairest Award, (both DVFL & NFL), twice.

Congratulations to Daniel who is a true Captain and Champion of Montmorency FC both on and off the field.

From the President

In reference to what been published by the media outlets today, Montmorency
Football Club would like to advise:

The Montmorency Football Club takes allegations like these very seriously
and we are cooperating fully with Victoria Police.

Given that the matters are under investigation by Police we are restricted
in what we can say but we urge anyone who may have any relevant information
to come forward.

What we can tell you is that the alleged accommodation/booking was made by
private individuals and was not a club organised or sanctioned event. The
Montmorency Football Club's Official End of Season Trip attended Glenelg
last weekend and was a fully chaperoned event.

The Montmorency Football Club condemns any violence towards women. We have
been the host club, and one of the main drivers of AFL Victoria's Respect
and Responsibility program which aims to create safe, supportive and
inclusive environments for women across the football industry and throughout
the social community. All players, administrators and members have attended respect and responsibility sessions this year in an effort to reinforce the principles of the
program.

We are committed to continually work with our players and members so they
are aware of their responsibilities to treat women with respect.

We ask that all members of the public and media with information contact the
Police; but that all also respect the fact that this is a Police matter and
therefore there will be no further comments until the matter is resolved.

Kind regards,

Gary Green
President

MONTMORENCY JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB COACHING 2010

The MJFC is especially keen to hear from anybody within the senior club who is interested in coaching in 2010.As evident this year with Tom Rubira’s great efforts, Darren Bouton’s award winning season and Doug Byron’s highly valued coaching role ,it is great to have current and former Senior players coach the juniors. The MJFC would do our best to be flexible on what arrangements could be put into place for any prospective coaches in 2010.It is a very satisfying experience to coach youngsters in footy and one I hope that would appeal to many in the Monty footy community. We would encourage anyone with any interest in any type of coaching involvement to please seek out further information.
